Steve Bates is an artist and musician, raised in Winnipeg and now living in Montréal. Coming from a back ground in the noisier side of music, radio art eventually lead to installation projects, both gallery and publicly sited. The sonic is always the starting point for his projects which are then manifested as evocations of communication networks and systems, or expressions of spatial and temporal experience.

Bates frequently uses sound material that is site-specific in an attempt to uncover place and how the sonic effects our experience of site. Time is measured, stretched, pulled at, ignored, and extended.

Bates holds an MFA from Concordia University where he was awarded the inaugural Claudine and Stephen Bronfman Fellowship in Contemporary Art. Current projects include ongoing collaborations with Douglas Moffat as Field Sound, including Okta, a multi-channel, permanent, outdoor sound installation commissioned by the City of Toronto, Lanterner, a music duo with Marc-Alexandre Reinhardt, and solo exhibitions. Bates continues to release music, both solo and collaboratively. His work has been exhibited in Canada, the United States and Europe.

The duo called Dusth, made up of Robert Taite and Kelsey Braun, has been making sound works since 2008. Dusth mines from sources including but not limited to, contact, electro-magnetic, and hydro microphones, field recordings and found sounds, no input, table-top/prepared guitar, pedals and home-made forms of manipulation. The focus or theme of Dusth shifted in the past year from atmospheric soundscapes that referenced psycho-geographies to a more direct focus on the structures of improvisation, theme-less or 'free' music and creating dynamic arcs between lower-case minimalism, humour and noise.

Mattin (SP) is a Basque artist working with noise and improvisation. His work seeks to address the social and economic structures of experimental music production through live performance, recordings and writing.

Using a conceptual approach, he aims to question the nature and parameters of improvisation, specifically the relationship between the idea of ''freedom'' and constant innovation that it traditionally implies, and the established conventions of improvisation as a genre.

Mattin considers improvisation not only as an interaction between musicians and instruments, but as a situation involving all the elements that constitute a concert, including the audience and the social and architectural space. He tries to expose the stereotypical relation between active performer and passive audience, producing a sense of strangeness and alienation that disturbs this relationship.

Julie Rousse (FR) is an artist, and collector of sounds; these raw sounds are for her an infinite source of rhythms and colours, which she shapes with real time sound treatment software – real time being the essential element of her spontaneous approach. Interested in regaining an organic feeling in music by means of electronic devices and improvisational acts, with a marked taste for abstract narration, turbulence of details and the inextricable disorder of life.

Around the world she has developed her very own resonant and poetic universe, and presented her work throughout Europe, and in Canada, USA, Tunisia and Chile.

Working primarily in noise and drone, Winnipeg artist White Dog explores the dark pools of psychological tension and terror that exist within the human experience. From the earliest recorded tracks in 2004 to 2011's Escape the Mystery II, White Dog continues to melt minds by taking mundane or whimsical ideas and sounds and twisting them into unsettling, wacky, & sinister soundbombs.

Zimoun, born 1977, is an installation and sound artist from Switzerland. Exploring mechanical rhythm and flow in prepared repetitive systems, the sculptures and sound architectures of Zimoun incorporate commonplace industrial objects. The pieces transform constructed acoustic and electrical noises into reverberating ambient hums that resemble natural systems. The artist focuses on creating acoustic architecture with an organic feel, investigating the properties of sound, materials, resonance and generative systems.

In the past years Zimoun's work have won several prices and awards and have been exhibited or shown as live performances in numerous countries in Europe as well as in China, Singapore, Egypt, Canada and the United States.
