Call for Board Members
send + receive: a festival of sound is looking to onboard new Board members. Understanding the lack of diversity in art spaces, we especially encourage people from marginalized communities and intersecting identities to apply and share this call with their networks. We invite you to self-identify in your statement of interest.
Roles and Responsibilities of the Board
Board members supports send + receive’s Director based on the identified priorities of the organization, including the following:
- Advises on proper and organizational sustainability as a non-profit.
- Plays an active role in the Board’s evaluation and planning efforts, including review of bylaws and other policies to ensure they are up-to-date and observed.
- Provides feedback on festival planning and programming in a strictly advisory role to the Director.
- Attends monthly meetings (currently held on Zoom) that are approx. 2 hours long. Board time commitment increases as the festival, and any ancillary activities, draws nearer.
Our Equity and Community Outreach committee will host public meetings throughout 2021, with the aim of developing recommendations and collecting community feedback for the Board. These conversations will help Board members to grow the organization in the years to come.

send + receive is an International festival that investigates the disciplines of experimental music and sound art, and is one of the longest standing media arts festivals in North America focusing exclusively on sound-based work. It presents an invaluable opportunity for showcasing the innovative work of Manitoban, Canadian, and international artists. send + receive addresses the need for a critical and intimate platform for audio-based art locally, nationally, and internationally. With feedback from the public, collaborating arts groups, and artists, send + receive meets the creative and technical needs of professional artists.
send + receive is a not-for-profit based out of Winnipeg, Manitoba, Treaty No. 1 Territory.
Accessibility
When it is safe to do so, the Board will resume meeting at our office at 221 McDermot Avenue. The building has a shallow step to reach the front door and our office is up three flights of stairs. There is a gender-neutral bathroom on our office floor that requires one step to reach.
