Farewells and Introductions for send + receive’s Artistic leadership
It’s with mixed emotions that we bid adieu to our Director, crys cole. crys, who was involved with send + receive for 12 years – 11 of them serving as Director, has been integral to the development and increased visibility of the organization during her tenure. Her greatest legacy will no doubt be her remarkable and deeply thoughtful festival programs which gave a platform to emerging artists in tandem with iconic senior artists such as: Keith Rowe (UK/FR), Tony Conrad (US), Charlemagne Palestine (US/BE), The Sons of God (SW), Akio Suzuki (JP), Annea Lockwood (NZ/US), Joe McPhee (US), the Nihilist Spasm Band (CA) and numerous others. crys is moving on from send + receive to shift her focus full-time to her own artistic career.
After an extensive search, we are thrilled to welcome Cam Scott as our new Artistic Director. Cam is a poet, critic, and sound artist from Winnipeg, Canada, Treaty 1 territory. His books include WRESTLERS, a visual suite published by Greying Ghost in 2017, and ROMANS/SNOWMARE, forthcoming from ARP Books in 2019. He performs as Cold-catcher and as a part of many other groups and collaborations, including Swolowes and Existers. Cam served on the send + receive board for over 4 years, was involved in send + receive’s radio show, and was featured in our 2016 festival.
“As a performer and researcher, I’m fascinated by sound as reception, and its capacity to transform social space,” says Cam. “send + receive furnished some of the most memorable experiences of my listening life, and I’m excited to deepen my involvement with its community, which already means so much to me.”
“It was an honour to work with all of the artists, community and the s+r family to bring so many outrageous ideas into fruition over the past 11-years in Winnipeg. As the second Director of s+r after it’s creator Steve Bates, I feel truly gratified to have played a part in further establishing the visibility and support for this wonderful festival to keep thriving. I am delighted to pass the torch to Cam Scott who i know will bring enthusiasm, passion, consideration and absolutely brilliant creative ideas to the future of send + receive!” – crys cole
