The Lost Generation: Outside the Mainstream, directed by avant-garde jazz luminary William Hooker, is an effort to elaborate on the history of the many musicians of the 1970s whose music has gone unrecognized by a larger audience. Most of these artists have international followings and continue to perform, record, and document their art and their lives. Some of the musicians, entrepreneurs and listeners featured in the documentary include Michael Thomson, Ken Filiano, Larry Roland, Ras Moshe, Ted Daniel, Dick Griffin, On Davis, Steve Dalachinsky, Craig Harris, Hilliard Greene, Michael Dorf, Richard Berger, William Parker, Sarah Manning, Steve Swell, Newman Baker, Iconoclast, Patricia Parker, Jackson Krall, Andrew Lamb, Marc Edwards, and many more.

On Saturday, July 30th send + receive and Cinematheque present the Canadian debut of this inquisitive deep dive into one of the richest musical cultures of the last fifty years. In the August 2022 issue of The Wire magazine, reviewer George Grella writes that Hooker’s interview format “provides an engrossing way to hear the artists speak to and about one another, within and across generations in non-real time.”

Tickets are available online now and at the door.
